     Organic Avola Almonds
mandorle.artistico

The organic almond Abola is only produced by plants "Almond of Avola" which indicate three specific cultivar (quality of the almond trees) that originate in the territory of Avola in the Syracuse area.

- "Pizzuta d'Avola" is the finest almonds in the world and is considered as the Queen of Almonds. It blooms in winter and therefore thrives only in marine areas and low hills. It prefers the best land and the best exposure. The shell is hard and smooth, with small pores and a pointed end. The seed is big, has a shape of flat ellipse. The coat is of a colour of red leather and has wrinkled surface. This elegant seed would bring you the esthetical pleasure in all –its shape, flavour and taste.

- For "Roman or 'Corrente d’Avola" we should be grateful to an Avola family which brought this type of almond in the region. It has a cultivar with hard and wrinkled shell and small pores. The seed Romana is nearly triangular, with irregular shape and very often you will find two seeds in one shell. The flavor is rich and full.

- "Fascionello" does not have the aesthetic elegance of Pizzuta but it doesn’t; affect its eating and aromatic qualities, slightly sweeter and gentler than its older sister, because it is fatter. It has a large shell often with ocher streaks and a smooth surface with small pores. Also it is characterized by a symmetric seed with one convex side and a dark and rugged coat with deep veins. The shape is more rounded, bulbous and pointed than the Pizzuta with a softer consistency.

The almond of Avola is an oily fruit with many nutritional and health properties. Its vitamins (E, B2) and fatty acids Omega 3 is an excellent combination for lowering cholesterol levels and preventing heart and alike diseases caused by the cell oxidation process. The vitamin E, which the almond is rich with, is effective in fighting against the aging of tissues. The vitamin B2, also called riboflavin, is good for one’s eyes and skin, also strengthens the nervous system. And do not remove the seed coat, because it helps increasing of intestinal bacteria.

And what is particularly important here is the connection with the town of Avola, formerly called "Abola", a unique hexagonal Sicilian village, famous for its almonds and architecture that denotes the Liberty style spread in Italy in early 1900’s.

That's why in the packege label we decided to express this bond through the view on the central square, Piazza Umberto I, which highlight some special features of this particular Sicilian village.
